Cajun Shrimp Pasta Sausage

A vibrant and flavorful dish combining shrimp, smoky sausage, and creamy Cajun sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners or impressing guests.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz fettuccine or linguine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup bell peppers, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Chopped parsley
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cook the Pasta – Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add fettuccine or linguine, and cook until al dente. Reserve a cup of pasta water, drain the rest, and set aside.
  • Step 2: Sauté the Sausage and Vegetables – In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté smoked sausage for 3-4 minutes. Add onion, minced garlic, and bell peppers. Cook for 5-7 minutes until tender.
  • Step 3: Add the Shrimp – Incorporate peeled and deveined shrimp, season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of Cajun seasoning. Cook until shrimp turns pink and opaque, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Step 4: Prepare the Cajun Sauce – Pour chicken broth into the skillet, scraping up bits from the pan. Stir in heavy cream, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Step 5: Combine Pasta and Sauce – Add cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing gently in the sauce. If too thick, add reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
  • Step 6: Serve and Garnish – Plate the dish hot, garnished with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

Choose a smoked sausage like andouille or kielbasa for depth of flavor.
Adjust spice levels by modifying Cajun seasoning and cayenne pepper.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
