Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat work perfectly)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1/2 cup fruit preserves or jam (any flavor you prefer)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (you can use whole, skim, or a dairy-free alternative)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (a must for that warm flavor)
- 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Filling – In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese and your choice of fruit preserves or jam until well combined.
- Step 2: Assemble the Roll Ups – Trim the crusts off each slice of bread. Flatten each slice with a rolling pin, spread the cream cheese filling, and tightly roll each slice.
- Step 3: Make the Egg Mixture – In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Step 4: Cook the Roll Ups – Heat a skillet over medium heat with butter. Dip each roll in the egg mixture and cook seam-side down for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Step 5: Serve – Dust the roll ups with powdered sugar and serve warm, optionally with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.
Notes
French Toast Roll Ups can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. They are also versatile with various fillings.
