Indulge in these delightful Red Velvet Donuts that offer a unique twist on traditional donuts, featuring a rich flavor and stunning presentation perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 12 donuts 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat the Oven – Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is an important step as it ensures that your donuts will bake evenly.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Donut Batter – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined. In another bowl, combine the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Step 3: Fill the Donut Pan – Grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Fill each donut mold about halfway with the batter.
  • Step 4: Bake the Donuts – Place the filled donut pan in the preheated oven. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Step 5: Make the Cream Cheese Glaze – In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, then mix in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Step 6: Glaze the Donuts – Let the baked donuts cool in the pan for about five minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Dip the top of each donut into the glaze.
  • Step 7: Serve and Enjoy! – Serve your freshly baked Red Velvet Donuts and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use a good quality donut pan and a piping bag for filling the molds. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
