Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (5 oz) tuna, drained
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon chopped red onion
- 1 tablespoon chopped celery
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of bread (your choice)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your preference)
- Butter for spreading
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Tuna Salad – Drain the can of tuna thoroughly. Place it in a mixing bowl and flake it with a fork. Add the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard, mixing until combined. Then, fold in the chopped red onion and celery. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Step 2: Assemble the Tuna Melt – Take two slices of your chosen bread and spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice. On the unbuttered side, add a generous portion of the tuna salad, followed by a handful of shredded cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out.
- Step 3: Cook the Tuna Melt – Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the assembled sandwiches onto the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese has melted.
- Step 4: Serve and Enjoy! – Once cooked to perfection, remove your Tuna Melts from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. Slice them in half and serve warm.
Notes
Choose bread that can hold up to the filling without getting soggy. Customize your tuna salad with add-ins like pickles or herbs for extra flavor.
